9-10 December 2020
The GCTF Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Working Group, Co-Chaired by Australia and Indonesia and supported by the Global Center on Cooperative Security, held a series of three virtual workshops to inform the development of the Gender and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) Policy Toolkit.
On 9-10 December 2020, the second virtual workshop was convened, which focused on the existing evidence base and research on gendered dimensions of (preventing and countering) violent extremism, how to build a stronger base of evidence on this topic, gendered assumptions in the field, and how to integrate questions about gender into existing approaches and studies. Two separate group sessions were convened each day over the course of two days to accommodate a wide range of time zones and enable global participation.
Launched in April 2020, the objective of this Initiative is to develop a Policy Toolkit that will provide practical guidance and advice to support the implementation of the GCTF Good Practices on Women and Countering Violent Extremism, endorsed by the GCTF in 2015, and its Addendum, which was endorsed at the Tenth GCTF Ministerial Plenary Meeting in 2019. The Policy Toolkit will be designed to provide practitioners and policymakers with information about current trends and best practices, with case studies to provide practical illustrations, and links to additional guidance and information. It is anticipated that the Policy Toolkit will be presented at the GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting in September 2021.
