The GCTF “Initiative on National-Local Cooperation in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism” aims to build on the Ankara Memorandum on Good Practices for a Multi-Sectoral Approach to Countering Violent Extremism by identifying gaps in, and challenges to, national-local cooperation in P/CVE. Under the auspices of the GCTF CVE Working Group, Co-Chairs Australia and Indonesia, in partnership with ISD, the Prevention Project, Canada and the Netherlands, held the first of two multi-disciplinary expert workshops to bring together national and local governments, international organisations, civil society and private industry in order to identify and discuss ways to overcome barriers to national-local cooperation in P/CVE.
The interactive workshop, inter alia, highlighted specific country contexts, by including national and local, as well as governmental and non-governmental stakeholders from these countries. In addition, the activities, including through table-top exercises, focused the attention on the practical and other challenges around realizing national-local cooperation across the spectrum of P/CVE issues, including prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation and reintegration.
